I've always liked the sound of electrolarynxes and, on a whim, I had a look at buying one to use in a musical capacity. The cheapest non-second hand one I could find online was around £450ish, and even a second hand one goes for £250.
Why? I don't know the inner workings, but I can't imagine that it's all that complicated as surely it just needs to vibrate at two or more frequencies.
Please tell me that there's a legitimate reason for them being as expensive as they are, and it's not just because the manufacturers have a captive market.
