I'm looking at getting a dedicated NAS for home use. My current setup is an old PC exporting data over NFS & SMB. I'd like something with a smaller form factor and not needing manual backups. So something with >= 4TB of RAID storage is what I want.
Use is streaming audio and video, photo storage, random document archiving and source code version control.
I find the marketplace somewhat confusing. There's a bunch of single or dual disk boxes available, allowing up to raid 1 of about 2TB. Larger boxes are rarer. Synology appear to make one (411slim), and Buffalo have a linkstation -- but that doesn't appear to export over NFS.
Any experience with home NAS boxes or suggestions?
