1988 thru 2004 represented “the peak years” in popularity (across both global paranormal book sales and TV viewership of paranormal programming), with the majority of TV mediums and “psychic detectives” now beyond 70 years old.
In recent years more than a dozen of the most widely recognized “psychics” have died and dozens more are now in their late 70’s. The death of Sylvia Browne at 77 follows the similar aged deaths of Joyce Morgan, Irene Hughes, and Jodie Green. Discredited TV “police psychic” detective Noreen Renier is about to celebrate her 77th birthday and apparently paranormal delusional storytellers such as Laurie McQuary, Robert Cracknell, Kathy Fleinwall, Pam Coronado, and Nancy Weber are already in their 70’s or about to be.
While some slightly younger “TV psychics” include Barb Powell, Cathy Roller, Carla Baron, and Bee Herz --- the public has turned far more skeptical after years of abysmal psychic failures and substantial public scrutiny is already on these psychics and others.
It’s likely “missing person mediums” and “police psychic detectives” will never again be viewed by the majority of the public as credible.
