Can't comment on the rest of Europe as I don't read their press but I do find the idea often put about that somehow the British press are lefties quite laughable.
Overall though I'm not sure if the press is led by right-wing bias or just a naturally tendency to support the Establishment. There are certainly pockets of some really quite unpleasant right-wing tendencies in the mainstream press and I can't really think of too many obvious examples of vociferous lefties that counter them.
