St. Louis man attacks caseworker with samurai sword to keep bomb threat secret, police say

LOUIS • A man from St. Louis threatened to kill 500 million people with an atomic bomb, then stabbed his caseworker with a samurai sword to keep him from revealing the plan, according to court documents. Joseph Jacob Ade, 29, faces felony charges of assault and armed criminal action, and a misdemeanor charge of making a terrorist threat. Court documents claim the attack happened this way: The caseworker was visiting Ade as part of an “outpatient care program” on Sept. 28 when Ade threatened to blow up his entire block — the 5400 block of Louisiana Avenue in St. Louis, near St. Cecilia Catholic Church — with an atomic bomb. Ade also claimed to be working with Turkish terrorists and planned to use more bombs to kill 500 million people. Ade told the caseworker not to tell anyone, but the worker responded that he would have to tell his supervisor. Ade then allegedly pulled out a samurai sword and began waving it around, causing the victim to try to unlock the front door to leave. As he was doing that, he felt a sharp pain in the upper right part of his back, the documents say. The victim was able to leave, get in his vehicle and drive away. He then called St. Louis police.
