Since young people (ages 18-29) are one of the hardest segments to get to watch political news, this is a hard blow to take. Jon Stewart is leaving the Daily Show sometime this year. A little above 20% of folks in that age group get their political news from that show (probably more so now that Colbert Report is off the air).
I can't say I was surprised by the announcement. When Stephen Colbert left the Colbert Report last year, I told my wife it was just a matter of time before Jon Stewart left as he was getting up there in age. John Oliver has a nice show on HBO with Last Week Tonight, but not a lot of young folks have cable subscriptions and will turn to watch that. His show is also on just once a week instead of 4 days a week.
Where will the young go to get their news now? I suppose they can continue watching the Daily Show depending on who replaces Jon Stewart there. His shoes will certainly be hard to fill.
