Various coyrighted works take place in fictional universes, like in the cases of Star Wars, Lord of the Rings, and Warcraft. Hypothetically, if I write a work of fiction which takes place in one of those universes, is that copyright infringement?
For example, let's say I write a work of fiction that takes place in the Star Wars universe. I don't call the work "Star Wars" or anything like that, but reading it makes it abundantly clear that it takes place in that universe. It may reference to various events that took place in the Star Wars saga, or to the characters of the canonical Star Wars works. Would it be copyright infringement?
