Ok I'm trying to find a good analytical read dealing with the evolution of religious beliefs about the world, particularly in Judeo-Christian history/the Bible, and how it's been shaped to somewhat conform with the corresponding knowledge in science of the time; God of the gaps essentially...
For instance, the stories of characters "ascending" to heaven, which was essentially equivalent to the sky for a lot of people. They didn't have or didn't consider future air and space travel and didn't expect the Russians not to find God!!@
So in the modern age God is invisible and non-anthropomorphic and lies "outside" the Universe and heaven and hell are somewhat less tangible now than traditionally believed.
