My wife insists on decanting the remainder of the baked beans from a half-used tin into another container for storage in the fridge. She cites advice she received at University many decades ago that food shouldn't be left in opened tins (even if covered). This was due to the food reacting with the metal of the container to leave unacceptably high levels of heavy metal in the food.
My view is that tin cans are universally lined internally with a plastic covering, and that it makes no sense whatsoever to transfer the contents to another container. I accept that covering the open tin is important, and use cling film or aluminium foil.
Who is right?
