The Failures of Anti-Trumpism

From https://www.nytimes.com/2018/04/09/o...publicans.html

Quote:

  • by that standard, the anti-Trump movement is a failure.
  • Trump has more power than he did a year ago, not less. With more mainstream figures like H. R. McMaster, Rex Tillerson and Gary Cohn gone, the administration is growing more nationalist, not less.
  • According to an NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll, 59 percent of Republicans consider themselves more a supporter of Trump than of the Republican Party
  • I almost never meet a Trump supporter who has become disillusioned. I often meet Republicans who were once ambivalent but who have now joined the Trump train.
  • many Republicans, including Ted Cruz, are making the argument that if Democrats take over Congress, they will impeach the president. In other words, far from ignoring Trump, these Republicans are making defending him the center of their campaigns
  • As late as 2015, Republican voters overwhelmingly supported free trade. Now they overwhelmingly oppose it. The shift didn’t happen because of some mass reappraisal of the evidence; it’s just that tribal orthodoxy shifted and everyone followed.
  • The main reason Trump won the presidency is that tens of millions of Americans rightly feel that their local economies are under attack, their communities are dissolving and their religious liberties are under threat. Trump understood the problems of large parts of America better than anyone else. He has been able to strengthen his grip on power over the past year because he has governed as he campaigned.

Could we interview people from time to time, like ATS did here?

Oil shock to drive inflation and interest rates up?

I see oil going straight to $100 and higher. As always I base this on a technical view. If this were to happen what would be the consequences?

Teen convicted of murder after cops shoot robbery partner

Okay this is a... weird one.

In 2015 a group of five teenagers broke into a home in the small town of Millbroke, Alabama.

The police arrived and began to arrest one of the teens, who was at the time sitting in a parked car out front of the house. At this point the other 4 teens, at least some of which were armed, existed the house and shootout took place. In the shootout one of the teens, A'Donte Washington 16, charged at one of the officers with a revolver and the officer fired in response, killing him.

Okay this doesn't seem to be some sort of "Itchy trigger finger" cop story. The report does say that body cam footage does show Washington charging at officer with a revolver.

Now here's where it gets weird. Last week Lakeith Smith, 17 at the time of arrest, one of the other teens involved in the robbery (and possibly the shooting the article isn't 100% clear) has been found guilty in the murder of Washington. He's now looking at 65 years in prison, 55 years for multiple counts of armed robbery and 10 for felony murder.

Alabama has a "Accomplice Law" where, essentially, if someone dies while you are committing a crime with them, you can be charged with murder even if you didn't actually cause the person's death.

The three other teens have also been charged and plead guilty to murder, theft, and burglary charges but are still awaiting sentencing.

Senior(Australian) union official stood down over 'fake' Black Lives Matter page

All I can say is that this is about the lowest act I've seen in a while...

Quote:

Two Australian union officials have been stood down over claims they were involved in a fake ‘Black Lives Matter’ Facebook page that allegedly collected over $100,000 through fundraisers.

The National Union of Workers (NUW) has confirmed it has launched an investigation following revelations published in a CNN report alleging the page was a scam with links to the NUW’s White middle-aged WA Vice President, Ian MacKay.

Problem with credentials

I've got a new PC that I'm gotten set up and now I want to transfer some files to the new PC from the old one. When I try to access the old PC via file explorer, it asks for my "credentials". When I enter user name and password on the old PC, it says they aren't correct. But I KNOW they are correct.

Any idea what is going on?
