Watched the live action version of "Pinocchio" yesterday. Movie takes place in late 1800s small Italian village. So why were there black people in the village? Why did Frozen 2 also have black people in a clearly 18th century European village?
And yet, everyone in Wakanda of the Marvel movies, is black. No exceptions. Why no racial diversity there? Why no racial diversity in Mulan?
Look, I get it. Hollywood movies are notoriously lacking in racial/ethnic diversity. Too many all-white casts. And yes, as Wakanda is in Africa, so obviously all citizens would likely be black. Mulan took place in China, so all were East Asian.
So why isn't an 18th century Italian village all white?
If diversity is really important, it should be applied evenly, fairly, and without illogical double standards and exceptions.
