This is probably a UK specific issue.
I am absolutely fed up to the teeth about the lamentations about the dying High Street and what we can do to keep the high street alive. (Listening to latest You and Yours set me off.)
We cant.
It is dead and it is dead because society has voted with its feet and wallets and purses. Now some of the reasons may be because of issues such as high business rates but the why no longer matters as it has happened.
If the High Street as it used to be was still a viable business model it wouldnt have died.
We hear all these vox-pops of people saying how terrible it is, how they dont want it to happen, how they remember - I note they dont go on to ask these people whether they use the High Street for shopping or will admit they go online because it is cheaper and often more convenient for most of us.
