Cracked TV screen

Not a computer, but with Smart TVs, not so far away.

Yesterday after the death of a TV we went out and purchased a 70in LG TV. It was on stock, so we picked it up in the warehouse and took it home. With my wife and a neighbour we followed the instructions and installed it. Didn’t drop it, and nothing hit the screen.

Anyway when I got it working there were a number of vertical lines down the screen. After many frustrating calls to LG’s “customer service line” I am told that it’s not LGs problem as all TVs leave their factories in perfect shape. The store says there is no evidence of damage at their end. Ergo, it’s my fault, despite evidence that I followed their installation instructions.

I’m not leaving this here and will unleash Australian Consumer Law on this company. Several years ago I succeeded in getting Apple to repair a just out of warranty laptop on the basis of “presumed quality of product”, but this is a product under warranty.

I just poked around the area on the screen where the lines were, and when the number reduced, gave it a whack, and many of the lines disappeared. There are no cracks on the screen at all.

So, leaving aside legal action (it’s a $2000 TV) should I keep trying my “poke and thump” strategy, or could this make it worse? Right not there are only three or four vertical lines and a denser small area at the top where the damage obviously is. Any suggestions, stupid, legal or whatever would be welcome.
