Well, strictly speaking "assault" is possibly a strong term for this, but I for one am not okay with what happened. That is an apparently grown man, attacking a bunch of teenagers for the hat that ONE of them is wearing. So the kid supports Trump; BFD! There's any number of people who do for whatever reason; doesn't make it okay to roll up on them with zero provocation and verbally attack them then throw a drink in their faces.
I've seen multiple people wearing Trump supporting garments before and since the election and I've never once felt the need to confront them about it, mostly because while I don't like the man and did not vote for him I have never once felt it was my right to dictate to others how they should feel about him and/or show their support. I'll debate his policies all the live long day with you, mind, but that has nothing to do with people I pass in the street or see in stores wearing things that show support. I let them alone so long as they leave me alone (as I'm sure I've worn something other people have considered questionable fashion more than once in my lifetime, but have never been confronted about it as far as I can recall). Be better than this, people, and I'm saying that to ANYONE who thinks its okay to confront someone about what they're wearing, mind you; I don't give a damn if you're Republican, Democrat, Green Party, Christian, Muslim, Hindu, black, white, Asian, Latinx, whatever. If it isn't indecent, obscene, or something that clearly breaks the law, what other people wear is NOYDB (none of your damn business). It's this sort of holier-than-thou attitude that makes everyone as bad as everyone else, and I'm damn tired of it.
