Not once but twice I have raised my hand and repeated the following oath:
The first time I actually repeated the words "state your name" rather than stating my name  but that doesn't invalidate the oath.
Donald Trump has been elected in a fair and open election and when he takes his oath we will be united as brothers of a sort. I did not vote for this president, but I didn't vote for either Reagan or Bush under whom I've willingly and eagerly served my nation.
I might not like this president, and I may end up disagreeing with every single thing he does in office. But he was selected by the voters in a valid election. Like it or not, he will serve.
I call on all American citizens to follow me, head held high and nose firmly plugged, into a Trump Administration future.
The United States is an experimental instance of an experimental political system, representative democracy. We don't know for sure yet that this model is superior to previous systems with less internal friction. But the only way to find out is to keep the experiment running as long as it can.
Quote:
"I, _____, do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will support and defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic; that I will bear true faith and allegiance to the same; and that I will obey the orders of the President of the United States and the orders of the officers appointed over me, according to regulations and the Uniform Code of Military Justice. So help me God." |
