It is clear that Hillary's campaign outspent Trump's by scrillions. You bring up PAC's and say the Republicans raised $200m more than the Dems. By my calculations, the Republican PACs spent $608m and the Democrat PACs spent $514m, a difference of $94m, not $200,000,000.00. Add what the campaigns spent to what the PACs spent and you arrive at a figure showing the Democrats outspent the Republicans by $134,000,000.00!
Money did not buy this election.

(At that point in the evening it looked like Trump had taken NH, too.)
I paraphrase, but not by much... As someone was talking some fake patriotic crap about the little man having spoken with only a bunch of political rallies and no major campaign efforts, they cut to Rove who's nearly laughing at them. "I represent a PAC that spent north of twenty million dollars in North Carolina and in New Hampshire went over thirty million. We could've had a sit-down with every single voter in New Hampshire for that amount!" Just so's we understand... that is almost $100 per vote in NH for Trump. And that is ONE of the Super PACS. We can't get their specific donors and can only get a limited detail of their expenses, but you can generally guess that the money they raised, which has to be reported, is spent for the cause. The Super PACs on the Republican side raised $200,000,000.00 MORE THAN the Dem Super-Ps. So, I'd say we should avoid the facetious (nay, cynical) argument that Trump ran a shoestring campaign. His ground game didn't come out of no where. All that money went to professional canvassers and GOTV efforts, all dedicated to getting the word out there and getting the Robbing Hood elected. |
