Two words: Electoral Colleges
Answer me this: Is there any particular reason why 1) Americans have accepted this system, and 2) Go about their lives behaving and talking as if this system wasn't actually in place, and it was actually their vote the one that elects the President, when in reality it is not?
If there's one thing I find more absurd and paradoxical than Trump being President, is the fact that a "developed" country like the United States of America, has such an anti-democratic electoral system.
I feel that now more than ever, this issue should be discussed in depth. The current election system in which, not the voter, but rather an Elector, is the one who votes is simply absurd and frankly, antidemocratic. I wouldn't want to pass my vote to anyone, so that they can then decide whether or not they're gonna vote for my candidate or not. Not to mention the fact that this system allows for re-drawing the districts so that now a minority of districts get the majority of the votes. It's like there's this system that literally cheats on something as basic as numbers (10 should ALWAYS be higher than 8) and we all act like this is nothing.
Now, I'm not an American Citizen nor a Politician so maybe there's something I'm missing. But I'm having a hard time imagining any argument that justifies why this obviously corrupt system is in place.
(I'm expecting a lot of cynical one-line responses in this one, but hopefully at least one poster will be kind enough to help me by providing a descriptive scenario that better explains the situation)
