North Carolina town displays unusual level of stupidity

That's unusually stupid for North Carolina, average IQ 97.8.
The town in question is Woodland. Not only has it's town council stopped a proposed solar energy farm and imposed a moratorium on any future, similar projects but local residents have displayed a level of stupidity that's rapidly making the town a global synonym for idiocy.

Comments collected by the Roanoke-Chowan News-Herald include one man saying that "solar farms would suck up all the energy from the sun and businesses would not come to Woodland" and blaming the plan for "killing your town". Another (former science teacher Jane Mann) was worried that solar energy farms would interfere with photosynthesis and result in dead plants around town, and might cause cancer.

Representatives of the company behind the proposed development attempted to assure people that solar panels make use only of the sunlight that hits them directly and doesn't magically suck in all ambient sunlight but the locals weren't convinced. :jaw-dropp
