Books on Sumer?

Looking for a couple of history works on Sumer. I have a copy of Samuel Noah Kramer's The Sumnerians.
But it's a bit old, looking for something more recent.
At the same time, most of the books I found checking Amazon that seem worthwhile are well outside of my price range.
Any recommendations?
