Leopard escapes Utah zoo cage and just falls asleep

This morning a critically endangered Amur leopard escaped from its outdoor enclosure at the Salt Lake City Utah Zoo. A visitor noticed it sleeping on an elevated wooden beam only a few feet outside of its chain-link enclosure. The zoo evacuated visitors and shot it with a tranquilizer. The cat clung to the beam and then fell off unconscious. As of earlier today the zoo had no clue how it escaped. Everything was fine for visitors and the cat and then the zoo reopened later in the day.

The female leopard was seen by a visitor sleeping on the beam shortly after the zoo opened. Zoo staff had seen her inside the cage two hours prior. Maybe she got out and couldn't figure out how to get back in. I think it's amazing and rather charming that she didn't really go anywhere and just went to sleep right next to her cage.
