To a refined gentleman such as Samuel Johnson WS works were vulgar and obviously by an uneducated person. EG, WS has a person leave Alexandria and walk 100 miles to Rome. He has Hector consulting Aristotle.
Does this not explain how Sir Bacon would not have been the author? Most likely no gentleman such as Ben Jonson or Chris Morley would have claimed them either. Samuel Johnson wrote his "The plays of Wm Shakespeare" in 1765 so I conclude he would have been closer to the scuttlebutt or rumors etc.
