I was watching a science program many years ago about winning or losing an argument

In the TV program it showed one man winning an argument with another man. The loser of the argument was avoiding eye contact with the man winning the argument.

Deciding to try this for myself I was at a friends house while his sister was visiting there. She had a five-year-old daughter and I said to the child sitting behind her mother come here. She shook her head and I avoided eye contact and said weakly yes. The child looked intently at me and said no as she herself avoided eye contact. Continuing to avoid eye contact I softly yes. She again said no while avoiding eye contact.

I wasn't expecting this reaction. I was expecting to lose the argument while observing the childs reaction. I was not expecting the child to mimic what I was doing. I said yes to the ether once more and the child again siad no while speaking to thin air.

The childs mother started laughing about me playing with her daughter and the experiment was a failure except in one way.

I believe the child was enjoying winnig the argument to such an extent that she avoided eye contact with me to extend the experience.

While the child didn't know me I had known the little girls mother since she was five years old.
