Dogs capable of human language

I had a discussion on facebook on whether a dog can comprehend human speech in the way humans comprehend each other. I know they can respond to words. But I seriously doubt they have the cognitive functions to analyze language like humans do.

I think videos like these may be the cause for the logical fallacy about people thinking that their dogs are capable of understanding human speech and also the fact that owners have a personal psychological relationship with the dog:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_647...&nohtml5=False https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EAo0...se&spfreload=1

I've seen this phenomena quite often. Almost like there needs to be a term applied to this. Let's call it anthropocentric-animalism or something. (Perhaps there is already a term for this)

I'm top comment and my name on facebook is the same as my name on Skeptic forum. So you won't have trouble finding it.

Before commenting on this though. I suggest you read the facebook thread.

If you have studies that can counter my arguments regarding this. I would be more than pleased to discuss them. Since I only used basic neurology and some knowledge I already knew about the dog brain to strengthen my argument and not particularly individual articles. I know how this might sound. I will read up more on the subject of course. But it is just recently that I've actually started to show interest in the animal brain.

And F.Y.I this thread is not about whether dogs have means of communicating with each other using language (I seriously doubt barking can be considered language) but if they can can understand HUMAN language. I have to state this since the people in the facebook thread thought I was talking about dogs not understanding anything at all.

And yeah, if you know any books about different animal neurology (Books about the dog brain work as well) that would be awesome.

Thank you.
