I can't put my Windows 7 computer into Sleep mode....

THis just happened this weekend. Basically if I try to put my Windows 7 into sleep mode,my screen goes black but the hard drive continues to work. I have to restart my computer to get out of the black screen.Any advice would be welcome.
Worked fine thatn all of a sudden stopped working.
