The University of Manitoba has introduced a program to increase diversity in the teaching profession, by giving certain minorities preference in admissions to the Faculty of Education at the U of M.
Given that less than 30% of teachers in Canada are men, the point was brought up that this program should try to address this under representation, if diversity is the goal.
Here's an interview from CBC, in which representatives from the U of M try to defend this: http://ift.tt/1UT6EFs
Thoughts? Should a program promoting diversity actually try for equal representation?
