Democracy in trouble.

While it's all good to have a laugh at the USA being globally humiliated by Trump and Cruze, the fact is that other Democracies are heading in the same direction.

The practice of abusing Democracy as a means to gaining power has long been a problem. Fortunately the worst excesses in the past have not threatened democracy itself or if they have it has recovered and revitalised itself.

Australia itself has started to suffer from instability in the Democratic process. The state of Queensland has seen wild swings in results. Australia has had four Prime Ministers in four years. (IIRC).

Voters don't seem to know what they want or they think if they vote for the impossible they are entitled to it. They are stirred up and tricked into believing a democracy can deliver more than it can. At the same time, the Democracy is made as dysfunctional as possible. It's not just an Opposition Opposing, it's an Opposition doing everything it can to make Government itself dysfunctional.

They old days when Democracy itself was seen as being too important to treat with contempt by the politicians appears to be gone. The people then reacting accordingly.

What do we need?

Respect for Democracy and the institutions of Democracy from the Politicians themselves.
