California is an open primary state so that even though I'm a registered Republican I can vote for a Democrat.
OK, first off I wouldn't vote for any of the three leading Republicans. They are a mixture of hyper partisan, childish chicken hawk militaristic, racist pandering, whack jobs in my opinion. I've thought a bit about which one I would pick if some how the decision came down to those three and I had been anointed as the individual to choose the next POTUS but that is off the topic of this thread.
So that left Kasich, Clinton & Sanders
Kasich - Don't know a lot about him.
The good:
1.Might be most closely aligned with my ideas about economics
2.Seems like a reasonable fellow when I've heard him interviewed
3. Executive experience as a governor
4. Seems to be less corrupt than Clinton
5. My guess is that he would work to improve Obamacare, not destroy it
The bad
1. Won't get the Republican nomination
2. Don't agree with him on some major social issues
3. Said he'd back Republican candidate no matter who it is. Since the likely Republican candidate is a race baiting, corrupt, ahole that seems to want to start a trade war based on populist nonsense suggesting that one might support him is a pretty bad thing.
Clinton
The good
1. Reasonably relevant experience active first lady, senator and SoS.
2. Moderate on economic issues (go slow on $15 min. wage, doesn't want to start a trade war)
3. Mostly in agreement on social issues
The bad
1. Moderately corrupt, Clinton foundation looks to be pretty disgusting and her paid speeches to wall street are disgusting.
2. Unexplainable stupidity, hypocrisy and arrogance of the email scandal
3. Least likable of the three candidates.
4. More oriented to military solutions than I think is correct
5. Outrageous panderer to Israeli militants
Sanders
The good
1. Most honest
2. Most likable
3. Most sincere
4. Agree with him on social issues
5. Agree with him on corruption on wall street and need for government oversight improvement.
The bad
1. Wants to start a trade war
2. His pushing of $15 min. wage is terrible and it will do vastly more harm than good.
3. He's pretty close to too old to be president as far as I'm concerned.
OK, so how am I going to vote?
Kasich was the last to go. I still think he might be a pretty good president but the notion that he would support Trump for president eliminated any credibility he had with me.
I took Sanders off the list a few days ago. The $15 an hour minimum wage is routine Democratic Party pandering. I might not like it but I didn't like a few things about Obama's ideas either and he turned out to be one of the best presidents of my life (maybe the best). But then I heard Sanders spouting the populist nonsense about regulating trade to bring back jobs which will certainly have the opposite effect and that was just one negative too much for me.
So that leaves Clinton. A person that is the most corrupt person I've ever voted for knowingly. But she's smart, well informed on the issues, doesn't engage in race baiting (unless she's running for president against a black guy). And I think it's a good thing we'll have a woman president. Go Clinton.
