No, I haven't been fortunate enough to have seen it and I have only had the first CD of the two CD set for a few weeks but I believe the music is crazy brilliant and reminiscent of Sondheim's music. Check out this article from the NYTimes http://ift.tt/1Tm4O0g
I never listened to hip-hop music before but this musical introduces it a way I can understand (and it's not all hip-hop, listen to track 10). It has the historical integrity we would expect from a Sondheim musical and if you listen to it a few times you can hear incredible beauty in the score.
It is rare I give something a try because of popularity and find myself advocating for it. I'm reading the book now and it is clear that someone like me, who has passed tests to teach history to middle school children, learned many things from the score. It is also a very optimistic score about being empowered.
Has anyone seen it?
