In an article published by the Magazine "Diplomat", it is indicated that China's new stealth fighter is ready for production and they used three curious words to describe the state of the aircraft development project: "Ahead of Schedule".

I can't recall a time - ever - that that a Stealth Aircraft Program was referred to as "Ahead of Schedule". But...this time it looks to be the case.
The J-20 Stealth fighter is a Chinese "Homegrown" concept and doesn't so much appear to be a fighter as a Long Range Interceptor modeled after their J-9 Concept. The exact fuel capacity of the J-20 has never been revealed, but I bet this is the biggest secret of the entire J-20 program and explains why the J-20 is the largest "Jet Fighter" ever built. I figure China will use the J-20's extraordinary fuel capacity to launch long range interdictions of AWACs and Tanker Aircraft during time of war: both being indespensable for the support of any airforce trying to reach china via the Pacific Ocean.
People have tried to compare the J-20 to the F-22, but I don't really think that's the case. Compared to the F-22, the J-20 seems to be tailor-made to fight broad expanse of the Western Pacific (specifically off the coast of China!) where Fuel Capacity means range - and this means everything. The F-22, on the other hand, is designed to fight anywhere in the world.
People keep wondering why China keeps buying Russian Aircraft like the SU-35. Some people believe it's the engines that the Chinese want, but I don't think this is the case. I think the reason the Chinese love the SU-35, their own copy of the SU-27 called the J-11, and their Naval version of the SU-27 called the J-15, is that all of these aircraft have tremendous internal fuel capacity and, hence, range.
So, it looks like China is gearing up to fight an air battle based on Fighter-Aircraft Fuel Capacity (hence, range).
