An epiphany from watching the Republican debate

I've been spending most of the last year vaguely upset and cross from the cognitive dissonance created by knowing how well Trump is doing in the polls and wondering when his supporters would quit joking and say, "Okay, all fun and games over, this is the real candidate we're going to support and he's a reasonable guy..." and getting more and more upset every week that goes by and it doesn't happen and trying hard not to think of it, and I realized why Trump is still so popular, and why he will stay popular;

Trump is crazy. Everyone knows he's crazy, and they're fine with it.

He's still popular because he's only 50% crazy. The rest of the field is 60-90% crazy.

He's appealing to the more moderate and rational among Republicans.
