What effect would it have on the world if the USA just vanished one day?
I'm not talking about physical effects such changes in the weather or the massive tidal wave that would result from the ocean rushing in to fill the vacuum.
For the sake of this hypothetical, let's assume that one day the USA was just missing, leaving nothing but an expanse of ocean between Canada and Mexico (and where Alaska and Hawaii used to be), with no other physical effects.
Let's also assume that whatever mysterious force caused the USA to vanish without a trace also caused people to calmly accept this disappearance without causing widespread panic about other countries disappearing next.
What economic (and political) changes would likely occur throughout the world?
