I'm hoping someone can help me track down an anecdote I once read while researching the value of eyewitness testimony.
I've searched far and wide, but cannot locate it again. It went something like this:
In the old West, a guy was on trial for murder. His lawyer sent a telegram to his partner telling him the trial wasn't going so well, and the client would probably get hanged.
His partner telegraphed him back, "Don't worry, seven more eyewitnesses arriving by rail tomorrow."
That's the gist of it, but I'm sure parts of it are off. The context made me think this was a famous tale (or joke) but I can't locate it. Any help locating it will be welcome.
