A question involving James Randi cropped up in my wife’s 4th Year School of Psychological Sciences and Health exam today.

Question: 4

The magician and skeptic, James Randi, has offered a large cash prize to anyone who can demonstrate psychic ability under laboratory conditions. Although this prize has never been won, a significant proportion of the general population claim to believe in psychic phenomena. Illustrate how psychology can explain this apparent discrepancy.

Feel free to answer it! :)
