Many years ago I was watching a program on TV that described human interactions with one another. One thing that interested me was when people were having an argument the loser avoided eye contact. This would occur even when the argument was not serious. The loser of the argument would appear to be rethinking their position.
Later while visiting a good friend his sister was also there. She had her five year old daughter with her.
Thinking to test the theory I said to this child "come here" The child got as close to her mother as she could. I then avoided her gaze and said "yes" .
At this the child became interested and when I said "come here" again she gestured with her finger and said "no".
I said yes while avoiding her eyes. Gesturing with my finger.
The child repeated no while avoiding my gaze and gesturing with her finger.
The experiment wasn't going as planned as I wanted the child to think she had completely, totally and utterly defeated me. He reaction had not been expected.
My friends sister and I had known each other for many years and she thought the experiment was funny which I suppose it was.
The end result was the child enjoyed winning and wanted the small conflict to continue which explains the unexpected reaction.
