ABC StarStuff with Stuart Gary

It occurred to me as I was listening to the latest episode of StarStuff that I don't recall anyone ever mentioning this exceptional podcast on any JREF threads.

This is an Australian Broadcasting production that I have been enjoying for many years. The narrator is Stuart Gary who is quite remarkable in his knowledge of all things cosmological, and his interviews are never dumbed down or over simplified. Rather, the discussions are very high level and informative with various experts who provide a great deal of detail about their particular topics.

Though no one really knows how the pulsar generates pulses, the latest episode features a discussion of various theories of how neutron stars might be emitting their precision pulses, and the latest research providing evidence of just where the pulses are generated with respect to the surface of the pulsar is discussed.

Sun's first sibling discovered

Astronomers have discovered a star born from the same molecular cloud as our Sun. Also, ancient stars found in the Milky Way's halo, and empty space between stars used as a telescope to study pulsars.

I don't think this post is going to generate much discussion, but anyone interested in very technical discussions of cosmological issues is thirsting for information, this podcast is for you.

Two caveats. The musical interludes are just downright hokey and annoying, and it seems to me that the audio has been compressed to avoid pauses, which is also very irritating. I have complained to them about both issues, but they have never bothered to change either.
