Question about gun technology, not gun control

Smart phone technology made me wonder, could guns be designed to recognize only one user, or to be switched off remotely, etc.? I am not thinking of a code but some biometric property like fingerprints. I used to think "gun safety" was an oxymoron, but maybe technology could change this. If phones can come with remote "kill" switches, why not pistols?



On a somewhat more controversial plane, fingerprint scans could take the place of many background checks.
