I've just had a rather frustrating time attempting to join a website because when it comes to inputting a password, there's all kinds of things you can and cannot do, but it doesn't tell you what they are.
I have a way of generating long passwords which I can nonetheless remember. So I do that to start with. Nope, the password is too long. I work out a cut-down version. Nope, it must contain numbers. I work out a version containing numbers. Nope, no letter or digit can be repeated. By this point I'm getting frustrated so decide to go for something quick and easy (it's not a site I'm likely to visit again, and I've not given them any information about me so it doesn't really matter if the password is easily crackable). Nope, the password is too short. I give up.
Please note that there was no information about any of these rules given until I was told that the password I'd input wasn't acceptable. If I'd've* been told upfront what the character limit was, that the password must contain at least one number and one letter, and that it cannot repeat a letter or number, then that'd be fine as I could have started from there. But there's something uniquely frustrating about trying to accomplish something where nobody will tell you the rules unless you break one, whereupon you have to start over from the beginning again.
*Not a real word, but it should be.
