Explain EU-skepticism to me

Heard it reported on the radio that EU-skepticism is on the rise in Europe, and that EU-skeptic parties may get a lot of seats in the European Parliament. Could someone take the time to briefly explain to me what the principles of EU-skepticism is?

Here's my current viewpoint: I believe in international cooperation. I believe this is vital for the betterment of humanity. To me, nationalism is about self-identification, as opposed to group-identification. I support our national teams in various sporting-events. I celebrate Midsummers Eve. I saluted the flag when I was in the Army. That's the limit to my nationalism. I consider my self a human being before I consider myself to be Swedish.

This said, I find it hard to reconcile with the idea of leaving or even disbanding the EU project. There's a lot of things wrong with the current union, but leaving it or disbanding it is tantamount to giving up on cooperation to me.
