This a continuation from another thread, but rather than argue my own position, I would like people to supply their own reasonings to the following hypotheticals:
Case 1: A person writes a silly message on a dollar bill, spends it in a foreign country, and then, when they're back in the states awhile later, they get the same dollar bill back as change from some convenience store clerk during a mundane transaction.
Case 2: A person all alone at home hears banging on the basement door. They rush down, unlock it, and no one is in the basement, yet their dog is barking like mad. They see an apparition of someone that slowly fades into the wall of basement. Alas, there's no time to grab the camera, and the event doesn't happen again.
Case 1 is widely believed. Case 2 is laughed at. Why?
