So I'm enjoying a pretty glorious New England day today, and it occurs to me that even though I grew up pretty much right on this marsh and have spent more time here as a youth than anywhere else, I never thought to question where these trench lines come from.
I thought they were natural, but then I thought nature doesn't do straight lines. So if they're man-made, what's the purpose? They don't lead anywhere, they don't appear to do much of anything other than make people ask silly questions on the internet.
But there was no internet in the 70s or 80s - so that can't be it either! :D
Oh, and for those folks who care, the incinerator on the lower left is where Ylvis (What does the fox say?) filmed their ode to Massachusetts....
