Sharing C drive for copying

I'm running Windows XP and will soon be installing a new machine running Windows 7. Rather than copying my files with a thumb drive, I'd like to share the C drive on my local network and copy the files to the new machine. Once I'm running on the new machine, the old machine no longer needs to share the C drive.



Can someone describe the safest way to share the C drive for local network use only, if that is possible?
