Don't think that Rand's potential GOP opponents are not overjoyed at seeing this;they can put Rand in the position of having to break with his daddy on this issue....aliennating all of Rand's supporters who see him as Ron's heir...or supporting a position that will make him look like he is carrying Putin's water.
I think Rand's balancing act trying to please both his father's fanboys and more mainstream GOPers was going to be very hard to do;now it will be almost impossible.
