So, here's a photo of a pattern that sunlight casts onto a wall in my house in late afternoon:
...and here's what's causing this pattern:
As you can see, the sunlight passes through the small openings formed at the intersection of the louvre frame and the louvre blades. Other than some slight curvature (convex) on the louvre blades the openings are clearly not circular. So how does one account for the regularly eliptical light patterns cast onto the wall? Is this a repeated image of the actual sun, with the small openings acting somewhat like a pinhole camera, that are somehow distorting the image from circular to eliptical?
