I live in an exclusive gated community with private security, including roving guards. Tonight, we had a shooting. The details as we understand them:
A restaurant delivery driver mistakenly stopped at the wrong address, off by two houses. As he sat in the drive of the wrong house, an 18 year old male came out of the house with a baseball bat and asked the driver, in a car with a sign on the roof, why he was there and demanded he leave immediately. The driver tried to elain his situation, but the resident would hear none of it and advanced on the delivery driver, now out of the car, with the bat. The driver shot the kid in the neck, apparently a minor wound. The kid with the bat hit the delivery driver with the bat. The driver dropped the gun, the kid picked it up and shot the driver in the arm. Neither moron has life threatening injuries, unfortunately.
Why would a resident of a gated community with private cops think it logical to exit his home and threaten a delivery driver with a bat?
Why would the kid attack the driver with the bat once he learned the driver was clearly doing exactly what he claimed to be doing? No reasonable person in the residents shoes could have an expectation that he was in any danger.
Why would the driver, once confronted by a bat wielding adrenalin charged teenaged moron get out of his car with a pistol? His car has reverse. Leaving would seem to be a much more reasonable response.
