The LGBT issue will largely be resolved within the next 10 years. However, I think the next major confrontation in US politics is going to be genetic engineering and its fruits, which may provide a second wind to the Republicans (Fears of Indo-Mexican warlords arising :p along with general fears of apocalyptic diseases).
