The Green New Deal?
It's ironic that Biden's push for the Green new deal resulted in more US emissions after 6 straight years of reductions under Obama and Trump.

I know, it's Trump's fault, it's the pandemic, it's everyone's fault except Joe Biden. Funny, how Joe Biden blamed everything on Trump including the pandemic and other issues until he was elected. Now the US problems are everyone else's fault except his, even when he cited a lack of leadership when he was a candidate for president. He even promised to shut down covid as a candidate for president.
Funny how all the media shut down those covid death trackers as soon as Biden took office even though Biden's count is much higher than the previous president despite the three vaccines and the promise of uniting Americans, cooperation and being a real leader who takes responsibility.

Pacific Islands Politics
China has been indulging in Renminbi Diplomacy across the Pacific Islands for some years, and it seems to be paying dividends as the long-established voice for Pasifika, the Pacific Forum, fractures.
The claim is that Kiribati is withdrawing at China's behest, and coming on the back of a security accord with the Solomon Islands, it's starting to look like the western pacific islands are aligning with China, while the more traditionalists like Fiji & Samoa are sticking with the west.
Aussie is rightly concerned, with the islands most-closely aligning to China all being on their side of the ocean. Solomon Islands are only a short step from Aussie, and China now has the ability to station vessels there. I imagine the RSL in Aussie would be spitting tacks at the deal, given the number of diggers who died there in WWII.
I think Aussie, NZ & USA all need to up their game to counter China in the Pacific - we have a long and mutual respect for each other and NZ & Aussie never need to be asked to provide aid, nor do we seek political accommodations in return. I doubt they'll get that same respect from China.

Rich == 2nd Generation American?
I stumbled across a NY Times article about a recent book titled Streets of Gold: America's Untold Story of Immigrant Success which was authored by a couple of economics professors (1 from Princeton, 1 from Stanford). The gist of the book is the surprising (at least to me) finding that (in America) children of immigrants are 50 percent more likely to end up in the upper or upper-middle class than are children of people who were born in the USA. The authors' explanation of why this has happened: immigrants tend to move to areas where the economy is growing, which results in improved opportunities for their children, while existing residents tend to remain where they are even if the local economy is in decline.

1,000% tax on assault weapons & magazines?
Democrats KNOW they dont have the Senate votes to pass a new assault weapons ban.
BUT, they can use Reconciliation to pass any bill with an ideological bent, IF it raises revenue or spends money.
So, the Democrats are thinking about charge 1,000% on every assault weapon and high capacity magazine.
This would turn your average $900 AR-15 into a $10,000 weapon, making it out of financial reach for many Americans. $30 magazines become $300.
Is this a good idea? Will it save lives? Will would-be killers simply use shotguns and bolt action rifles and handguns instead?

Creeping rationality creeps along. Give it another couple of decades? No wonder the American Christian Right is worried.
