Because there is a clear difference in probability. Look at these two coincidences:

1) You are thinking about your favorite episode of your favorite sitcom. You turn on the TV to find that episode playing.

2) You are thinking of your favorite super model. You come home to find her waiting for you in your bed.

Are both equally coincidental?

Having an expression on your face while black.

Quote:

Leroy Kennedy, of Chicago, said he was walking down the street "minding his own business" when two police officers violently arrested him, leaving bruises on his face.

Kennedy, a Black man, is now suing the Chicago Police Department claiming that the officers' body camera video shows that he was not breaking any laws when he was taken into custody last August.

In a police report, officers said they confronted Kennedy because he had "a shocked look on his face" when he saw police and officers say they thought Kennedy was "attempting to conceal a firearm."

Furtive facial expressions and phantom firearms are all the reason CPD has to beat someone walking down the street.

Once again, Texas suffering power blackouts, this time due to heat wave.

Sweltering Texans urged to reduce cooking and cleaning to ease grid strain

Quote:

As temperatures rise to unseasonably warm levels across Texas this week, its citizens are being asked to use less energy on basics like cooking and washing clothes to ease strain on the state’s power grid that is struggling to generate enough electricity to cope with the high temperatures.

The move triggers memories for many Texans of the cold snap in the winter that incapacitated much of the state’s power infrastructure and raises fears that Texas – and other US states – are not prepared to deal with the extreme weather events that come with the global climate crisis.

The authority running the Texas power grid has asked Texans to set thermostats to 78F (25.5C) or higher, turn off lights and pool pumps and avoid using large appliances such as ovens, washing machines and dryers.

This is the second time that the Electric Reliability Council of Texas (Ercot) has issued such a call for conservation since the winter storms in February left more than 4.8m homes and businesses without electricity for days. The crisis was blamed for more than 100 deaths and $130bn in costs.
If only there was some way that a state like Texas could connect their power grid to the rest of the nation so that they could purchase power from states that have a surplus. If only.

But of course, Gov. Abbott says everything's fine. I bet he has no problem getting cooked food and clean clothes.

Quote:

In this year’s Texas legislative session, lawmakers passed a series of reforms aimed at safeguarding the state against blackouts. At a signing ceremony last week, the Texas governor, Greg Abbott, said that “everything that needed to be done was done to fix the power grid in Texas”.

ICE detains a US Citizen for a week in spite of him having his passport on him

https://katu.com/news/local/lawsuit-...week-in-tacoma

The Highlights:

Guy of Mexican descent is grabbed by ICE after 24 hours in jail for alleged DUI, has his passport on him (likely in card form), begs the ICE agents to examine it to confirm his US citizen standing, is detained in a private/for profit detention center for a week anyway, and is only released after they bother to do his fingerprints a week later and "discover" their mistake.

Or was this the motivation:

Reminds me of the dowser who claimed an 80% success rate. When asked why 80%, he replied "well, there's water under about 80% of the land in this area".
