Russian space agency endorses ISS until 2024

And then it plans to undock their modules from the ISS, to make a purely Russian space station:

Scottish power station to close, cheaper to bring power from South of England.

http://ift.tt/1BV8D43

Scotland's largest power station may be forced to close due to the huge sums its operator must pay to connect to the National Grid.

Scottish Power, which owns Longannet in Fife, said its location meant it was at a disadvantage when competing against English plants.

The company has decided not to enter the contest to supply energy generating capacity in 2018/19.

Longannet is one of the biggest coal-fired power stations in Europe.

The UK's transmission charging regime is designed to encourage the power companies to invest in generation capacity close to the largest centres of population in central and southern England.

At present, it costs about £40m a year to keep Longannet connected to the national grid, while an equivalent power station in the south of England would receive a payment of £4m.

It's cheaper to bring English power across the grid to Scotland than to use Longannet.

Another, more insidious, problem with 50 Shades of Grey

A new problem has reared its ugly head because of the popularity of the books, and now the movie. The good news is that women are getting their wish to be handcuffed granted but finding they don't like it so much!

That's right folks . . . masturbating in a movie theatre isn't just for Pee Wee Herman anymore.

Adobe Fillable forms not showing text

In an organization in which I am involved, we have a writeable PDF on our website. People are supposed to download it, fill it out, save it to their computer, and send it to me. Everyone downloads the same version of the form; it is the only version that exists at present.

Most of the time, this process works as it should. But in several instances, I have received forms which appear to have no data, until I click on a writeable field, at which time the data appears. When I click on another field, the text in the first one becomes invisible again.

Interestingly, the form contains check boxes, and those work properly correctly even though the text boxes appear empty.

I have tried to copy the data from a non-functioning PDF to a new version of the form. When I do this, sometimes the text is visible and sometimes it isn't. I have tried copying the text to a text editor and then to a PDF, and the text shows up as it should. Unfortunately, there are too many PDFs for me to repair all of them--and that's not the correct way to solve the problem anyway.

A search of the Adobe website as well as a general online search has produced neither an explanation of the cause, nor a possible solution to the problem.

Has anyone encountered this, and if so do you have any idea what is causing it and more importantly, how to correct it?

Fox News angry that mall is gun free zone

Ever wonder what the appropriate solution to vague terrorist threats against our shopping malls is? Fox News has! Their idea: let everyone bring their guns! Because a whole bunch of armed, scared people looking to spray bullets at anything that they deem "suspicious" in a crowded shopping space couldn't possibly go wrong.

False Memories Easily Manufactured

This is a very significant and interesting confirmation on planting of false memories that every skeptic should bookmark.

It has application to all the claims of satanic ritual abuse, false confession to crimes and to many other areas promoted and supported by the woomeisters.

Per the Toronto Star:

Planting false memories fairly easy, psychologists find

New study bolsters notion that memory is fragile and aggressive police interrogations don’t always serve justice.

And the Abstract from the original paper at: http://ift.tt/1zFC7wW

Quote:

Memory researchers long have speculated that certain tactics may lead people to recall crimes that never occurred, and thus could potentially lead to false confessions. This is the first study to provide evidence suggesting that full episodic false memories of committing crime can be generated in a controlled experimental setting. With suggestive memory-retrieval techniques, participants were induced to generate criminal and noncriminal emotional false memories, and we compared these false memories with true memories of emotional events. After three interviews, 70% of participants were classified as having false memories of committing a crime (theft, assault, or assault with a weapon) that led to police contact in early adolescence and volunteered a detailed false account. These reported false memories of crime were similar to false memories of noncriminal events and to true memory accounts, having the same kinds of complex descriptive and multisensory components. It appears that in the context of a highly suggestive interview, people can quite readily generate rich false memories of committing crime.
