Brother Stair has apparently died

This will probably be little more than a footnote, as I don't imagine many here have heard of Ralph Stair. His death has been reported by Allan Weiner, the owner/operator of the WBCQ shortwave radio station, who to be sure is one of the few people who would be in a position to know.

Shortwave radio has fallen on hard times lately. By "lately" I could easily mean "since the 1980's", but even more since the advent of the internet. If you're in the United States and you're looking for domestic-origin, English language broadcasts, there's very little else to be heard on shortwave radio except for conspiracy theorists and politico-religious nuttery.

If you have ever heard any of that politico-religious nuttery on shortwave radio, chances are, you heard Brother Stair. Brother Stair ran the Overcomer Ministry, an insular apocalyptic cult based in South Carolina where he styled himself "the Last Day Prophet of God" and exercised draconic control over his members' lives, and where he used the group's collective funds to pay for hours of airtime on just about every still-remaining commercial shortwave broadcasting station in the US to broadcast his stream-of-consciousness sermons. He was also arrested twice for sexually assaulting women, including minors, at his "commune", most recently in 2018.

Despite his tremendously outsized AM/SW radio presence and large audience that kept him funded to the tune of over a million dollars per year, Brother Stair was not a terribly influential figure among the Christian right in the US at large, due in no small part to his relatively anti-Christian-nationalist leanings.

Here's an excerpt from one of Stair's rants, if you want to see whether you recognize his voice:

'Imminent' reservoir wall collapse threatens polluted flood of Tampa Bay

This does not sound good.

https://ph.news.yahoo.com/imminent-r...160713976.html

Quote:

(Reuters) - Florida Governor Ron DeSantis on Sunday headed for the site of a defunct phosphate plant south of Tampa, where a leak at a waste water reservoir forced the evacuation of hundreds of homes and threatened to flood the area and Tampa Bay with polluted water.

Worsening of a week-old leak in the containment wall of the 480 million-gallon Piney Point waste water reservoir prompted DeSantis to declare a state of emergency over concerns over the possible collapse of stacks of phosphogypsum waste, primarily from fertilizer manufacturing, at the plant.
I wonder how many abandoned tailings ponds there are around the world just waiting to flood the landscape? And the cost of "fixing" the problem?

Vicious Cycle of Damage from Pharma Drugs

I've been there, was in the ER from a pharma anti inflammatory in the 80's and that was my turningpoint...

Pharma has it made, they continue to produce their drugs and the drugs continue to produce side effects, and then a new drug for the side effects and it goes on and on.

I can't help but believe they are EVIL, Profits Before People...

I take a couple otc pain meds, low doses and am very careful as I don't want damage and also take BP meds and no side effects there, perhaps some fatigue but been taking them for years. I tried on my own for a long time to control my BP, but hearing that mantra, The Silent Killer, got me hooked...

I know it's NOT good to live with HBP.

CT Hero Worship

There is a frequently-occuring aspect of conspiracy theory thinking that I find interesting, and possibly worthy of discussion.
Whenever a conspiracy theorist posts something, the focus is almost always on the person who said it, rather than what they actually said.
Prominent figures are cited- 'Judy Mikovitz says this', 'RFK Jr. says that'- as if that was enough. Very little, if any, attention is paid to what evidence there is for these utterances.
The same applies when CT-ists address counter-arguments: the focus is again on who said it (Fauci being the obvious example), not what was said.
This appears to be peculiar to conspiracy theorists. Those arguing for science and factual evidence don't put such high value on the messenger: they look at the facts behind the claims. CT-ists don't appear to understand this, and constantly assume we are engaging in the same kind of hero-worship that they are. (Well, this is true for me, and appears to be generally true on this forum).
Why is this?
Why this focus on the person and not the evidence? Why this blind trust of favoured individuals, and equally irrational distrust of others? I really don't get it.
