Have just watched a BBC documentary that deals with the latest research into the placebo effect.
Let me get straight to the question that for me, it has raised.
If there is a strong placebo effect using fake tablets and/or procedures as a primary objective to cure pain and discomfort, as the programme clearly demonstrated, then what is the value in conducting medical trials on drugs that include placebo as a control?
Apologise if this has been debated before. If there is another thread on this topic that answers my question, then I would be grateful for a link, or alternatively if not, some comments on the apparent contradiction, would be appreciated.
